SUGAR HOUSE

Sugar House is a Corktown favorite for its cocktail menu, which has 101 classics in addition to original, seasonal choices. Classes are on a more introductory level, with choices like Mixology 101 and Introduction to Gin or Rum. These cocktail classes are held on select Saturdays and hosted by senior bartenders from Sugar House. For about two hours, you’ll delve into the basics, create a cocktail, and ask all the questions you may have on mixology.

BELLE’S LOUNGE

Run by the Valentine Distilling Co. team that specializes in small-batch handcrafted spirits, Belle’s Lounge is a great spot to learn about cocktail making. The Valentine Distilling Company General Manager shares, “Step into the chic and lively vibe of Belle’s Lounge, where skilled mixologists teach you how to craft amazing cocktails. Learn tips and tricks for making two signature drinks with Valentine’s award-winning spirits; all while having fun with friends, on a date, or even meeting some new people. The class is interactive—you’ll be mixing, shaking, and garnishing your own creations like a pro. Plus, you’ll enjoy your handcrafted cocktails as you make them.” Tickets include instruction for two craft cocktails lasting around an hour, recipe cards, and a souvenir Valentine Distilling Co. copper measuring jigger to add to your bartending setup at home. Whether you’re joining solo, with a partner, or with friends, the lively atmosphere of Belle’s Lounge ensures you’ll leave with new skills and plenty of memories.

MIXOLOGY IN THE D

If you’re looking for a mix of entertainment and expertise, Mixology in the D delivers. Mixology in the D goes beyond the drinks, offering an experience with each class. Their hands-on classes feature housemade recipes, syrups, and local spirits. Never using the same drink twice, each monthly class brings something new for attendees. Guests will learn how to create two signature cocktails with guidance from their master mixologist, and leave with recipes to recreate them at home. Classes start with an introduction, continue with two breakout sessions, and end with time to mix and mingle. The atmosphere is as vibrant as the drinks themselves, making it a great way to explore the art of mixology while embracing Detroit’s lively energy.

SYNDICATE FERNDALE

Syndicate Ferndale takes mixology to a whole new level with its monthly cocktail classes hosted by Bar Manager Janel Dunn. Each session dives into unique topics like mastering ice stamping, using electric dust, flavor blasting bubbles, crafting specialty rims, and more, which are all specialties at Syndicate Ferndale. Classes also include professional barware kits, making this an investment in your home bar skills. Attendees enjoy crafting three signature or seasonal cocktails while exploring advanced techniques and topics. These intimate, hands-on classes are ideal for those eager to dive deeper into the art and science of mixology. The classes fill up fast, but you can reserve your spot under their “Pop-Up Events” section.

TAMMY’S TASTINGS

Tammy’s Tastings is great for learning how to make different cocktails, as classes are offered on a weekly basis online and in-person in the Ann Arbor area. Online attendees are given a list of several recipes in advance so you can pick the drinks you want to make along with the class, as well as get all the necessary ingredients beforehand. In-person classes last around two hours, and attendees are provided with light snacks, history, techniques, cocktail making with hands-on instruction, and sampling. Classes are themed, with choices like Dessert Drinks and more seasonal options.
